Louisiana 1/4, 1904 14 stars. From the Louisiana Purchase exposition.
The first illustration shows an earlier die state with all 14 stars visible. Note that
only 1 point of star 1 is visible and that the reverse die has nearly been destroyed
by a clash. The second picture shows the later die state with 4 stars ground away,
1 star fragmented and several cracks appearing on both dies. The late die state is
often labeled a different variety and is almost always very weakly struck.
This obverse known muled with Wreath 2 1903 Arms of California #1 reverse in a late die state.
See illustration under Wreath 2.
